Quick Answer
For a large garden tidy-up in Oxfordshire in 2026, expect to pay between 350 and 2,500 pounds depending on the size of the garden and the condition it is in. A one-off tidy of a well-maintained half-acre garden costs 350 to 600. A neglected half-acre needing heavy clearance, hedge cutting and waste removal costs 1,200 to 2,500. Full-acre clearances of overgrown gardens can reach 3,500 or more.
Ballpark price ranges for Oxfordshire
Large garden, light tidy (half acre, maintained): 350 to 600
Large garden, standard tidy (half acre, some overgrowth): 600 to 1,200
Large garden, heavy tidy (half acre, neglected): 1,200 to 2,500
Full acre or estate, overgrown: 2,500 to 3,500+
What Counts as a Large Garden in Oxfordshire?
For pricing purposes, we class any garden over 400 square metres as large. Most large gardens we work on in Oxfordshire are between 500 and 2,000 square metres (roughly 0.12 to 0.5 acres). Estate gardens and rural properties can be an acre or more.
The Oxfordshire landscape includes the Cotswolds in the north west, the chalk hills of the Chilterns in the south east, and the clay vales in between. Garden types vary accordingly. Stone village gardens in Charlbury and Woodstock, period town gardens in Oxford itself, modern estates in Bicester and Didcot, and rural properties in the countryside between. Each presents different challenges for a tidy-up.
What Is Included in a Large Garden Tidy-Up
Our standard large garden tidy-up includes:
- Lawn mowing and edging across the whole garden
- Strimming of banks, edges and awkward corners
- Weeding of all beds and borders
- Cutting back of overgrown shrubs and perennials
- Hedge trimming where needed (tall hedges quoted separately)
- Clearance of leaves, dead growth and debris
- Sweeping of all paths, patios and hard surfaces
- Removal of all green waste from site
For larger jobs we work in a team of two or three, which keeps the time on site down and the cost predictable. We bring our own tools, fuel and waste vehicle.

What Drives the Cost of a Large Garden Tidy-Up
Garden size
The obvious one. A 500 square metre garden takes roughly half a day for a two-person team. A 2,000 square metre garden takes one to two full days. We price by the area plus the labour and waste, so larger gardens cost more in proportion.
Level of overgrowth
A garden that has been kept up but needs a seasonal tidy is quick. A garden that has been left for a year or more, with brambles creeping in, hedges needing a hard cut, and borders full of self-seeded weeds, takes three to four times as long for the same area.
Waste volume
Large gardens produce a lot of waste. A standard tidy on a half-acre garden can fill a 7.5 tonne tipper. Waste disposal in Oxfordshire costs 120 to 180 per tonne including transport. A heavy clearance can produce 3 to 5 tonnes, adding 400 to 900 to the bill.
Hedge length and height
Tall hedges are common in rural Oxfordshire. A 50 metre beech hedge at 2.5 metres tall takes a full day for one person to cut both sides and top. Tall conifer hedges like leylandii take longer because the cuttings have to be carried out. See our guide on hedge cutting costs in the Chilterns for detail.
Access
Many large Oxfordshire gardens have good access through a side gate or drive. Rural properties off single-track lanes can be harder to reach with a tipper. If we cannot get a vehicle close to the garden, waste has to be barrowed further, which adds time.
Slopes and banks
The Oxfordshire countryside is not flat. Gardens on slopes around the Cotswold escarpment, the Chiltern dip slope or the Thames valley sides take longer to work on. Mowing banks requires a strimmer rather than a mower, and carrying waste uphill is slow work.
How to Keep the Cost Predictable
Be specific about what you want
The more specific you can be, the more accurate the quote. Tell us exactly what you want done, what you want left alone, and what standard of finish you expect. A vague brief means we have to add a contingency and you pay more.
Book in the right season
January and February are our quietest months. Booking a large tidy-up in winter can save 10 to 15 percent compared to peak spring. The garden also looks less dramatic when cleared in winter, which makes the work feel less overwhelming.
Have a waste plan
If you have a council green waste bin and the clearance is light, we can leave waste in the bin. For larger jobs, we charge per tonne for removal. If you have space for a bonfire (where allowed) or a compost heap, you can save on disposal. See our guide on garden waste removal costs for detail.
Set up regular maintenance
If your garden needs a heavy tidy-up because it has been left, a one-off tidy is the right first step. But to stop it getting that bad again, consider regular maintenance. A fortnightly visit keeps the garden in check and is cheaper per month than a full annual clear-up. See our guide to maintenance costs for pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a large garden tidy-up take?
A 500 square metre garden takes half a day with a two-person team. A 2,000 square metre garden takes one to two full days. Very large or neglected gardens can take three days or more.
Do you take away all the waste?
Yes. All green waste is taken away and disposed of properly. Waste disposal is included in the quote. For very large jobs producing several tonnes, disposal is itemised separately.
Can you do a one-off tidy or do I have to sign up for regular visits?
One-off tidies are our most common job. You do not have to sign up for regular maintenance. Many clients have a one-off tidy in spring and another in autumn.
What areas of Oxfordshire do you cover?
We cover the whole of Oxfordshire, including Oxford, Banbury, Bicester, Witney, Abingdon, Didcot, Henley-on-Thames, Thame, Watlington, Chinnor, Charlbury, Woodstock and all villages in between. See our location pages for detail.
