Lawn Recovery Services

A tired, mossy or weedy lawn can be brought back to life with the right combination of treatments at the right time of year. Our lawn recovery service covers everything from a simple scarify and overseed to a full lawn renovation with new topsoil and seed.

  • Lawn scarification to remove thatch and moss
  • Hollow-tine aeration to relieve compaction
  • Top-dressing with sand and soil mix
  • Iron sulphate moss treatment
  • Overseeding bare and thin patches
  • Lawn weed treatment
  • Spring and autumn feeds
  • Full lawn renovation (strip, improve soil, reseed or returf)
Common Lawn Problems We Fix
  • Moss: caused by shade, poor drainage, compaction or acidic soil. See our moss guide for the four causes.
  • Bare patches: from heavy use, dog damage, shade or disease
  • Weeds: dandelions, daisies, plantain, clover and others
  • Compaction: from foot traffic, children playing or heavy mowing
  • Poor drainage: standing water after rain
  • Thatch build-up: dead grass and moss at the base
  • Thin grass: from under-feeding, drought or shade
The Recovery Process
  1. Assessment: we look at the lawn, identify the problems and the underlying causes
  2. Moss treatment: apply iron sulphate to kill moss
  3. Scarification: remove dead moss and thatch with a powered scarifier
  4. Aeration: hollow-tine or solid-tine aeration to relieve compaction
  5. Top-dressing: sand and soil mix brushed into the aeration holes
  6. Overseeding: new grass seed suited to the conditions
  7. Feeding: balanced fertiliser to help the new grass establish
  8. Aftercare advice: watering and mowing regime for the first 3 months
Best Time for Lawn Recovery

Lawn recovery is best done in either spring (March to May) or autumn (September to October) when the soil is warm and there is regular rain. Avoid summer recovery because the new seed will struggle in dry conditions.

Lawn Renovation Versus Recovery

If your lawn is more than 50 percent moss or weeds, or if the soil is severely compacted, a full renovation may be more cost effective than recovery. We strip the existing lawn, improve the soil, and reseed or returf. This takes longer but gives a much better result.

FAQs
Will my lawn look perfect immediately after scarification?

No. Scarification often makes a lawn look rough at first. Improvement develops over the following weeks with watering and growth.

Do I need to water after overseeding?

Yes. Aftercare is very important and we provide basic guidance on watering and mowing.

Can you remove moss and reseed in one visit?

Yes, that is commonly done in the same service, subject to lawn condition.

What if my lawn is mostly weeds or badly uneven?

A different solution or a larger lawn renovation plan may be more suitable. Send photos and we will advise.

Can this link into regular maintenance?

Yes. Ongoing maintenance can help support the recovery and future condition of the lawn.
