Fence Types We Install

Closeboard fencing

The strongest and longest lasting timber fence. Built from individual featheredge boards nailed to arris rails, supported by concrete or timber posts. A closeboard fence will last 25 years or more with minimal maintenance.

Panel fencing

The most common garden fence. Pre-made panels fitted between timber or concrete posts. Faster and cheaper to install than closeboard, but does not last as long. We recommend concrete posts to extend the life of panel fencing.

Post and rail fencing

The traditional rural fence for larger gardens, paddocks and field boundaries. Two or three rails between square or round posts. Can be wired if stock proofing is needed.

Trellis

Trellis panels are ideal for adding height to an existing fence without planning permission issues in most cases. They also support climbing plants like clematis, honeysuckle and star jasmine.

Common Fencing Problems
  • Rotten posts: the most common fence failure. We replace individual posts or the whole run.
  • Blown panels: panels blown out by wind. We refit or replace.
  • Bowing fences: caused by inadequate post depth or wind load. We reinstall with deeper posts.
  • Rotten gravel boards: timber boards rot at ground level. We replace with concrete boards.
Planning Permission and Boundaries

Most garden fences under 2 metres high do not need planning permission. However, if your property is listed, in a conservation area, or the fence is next to a highway, there may be restrictions. We can advise on this during the site visit.
